The Le Badie farm is located in the Municipality of Castellina Marittima on the first western slopes of the Castellina hills, about 10 kilometers from the sea. The name of the company is due to two ancient Benedictine monasteries that were present in the territory in medieval times, the remains of one of the ancient "abbeys" can still be glimpsed in the holm oak scrub, in the property of the company.
Our story begins in the 60s with the management of grandmother Marcella who follows the different crops: olive trees, vines and cereals. In the 1980s, his daughter Elena and son-in-law Giovanni resumed wine and olive production and transformed the "agricultural annexes" of the ancient abbey, two large stone farmhouses, into welcoming homes to give hospitality to tourists.
The latest generation: the grandchildren Federico and Francesca, decided to focus on the organic cultivation of olive trees and to take better care of the farm with a new renovation, providing it with all the comforts and conveniences of contemporary life: television, wi fi and air conditioning.
The area intended for olive groves is about 8ha. with about 2,200 plants of the Moraiole, Leccine and Frantoiane varieties. The harvest is done exclusively by hand and the pressing is done on the same day of the harvest with the traditional process of cold pressing. The oil obtained, naturally decanted, is bottled.
Variety of olive trees: Moraiolo, Leccino, Frantoio.
Plants over fifty years old, the harvest takes place by manual "stripping".
Features: the variety of olives referred to above together with the quality of the soil and the climate, give the oil a fruity, harmonious and vigorous aroma and flavor and a golden color, typical characteristics of Tuscan oil. It has a very low degree of acidity.
The I.G.P. (Protected Geographical Indication) carried out by the Tuscan Oil Consortium, has made it particularly appreciated by connoisseurs of high quality oils.
With the olive production of 2018 it was certified as organic oil by AGRIBIOCERT.
The Tuscan IGP extra virgin olive oil from Farmhouse Le Badie is produced exclusively with olives from our farm. Our oil is not found in shops or supermarkets but you can buy it directly from the company in packs ranging from 0.5 to 5 liters.
